Dr. Zeinab Arabeyyat
participated in the scientific mission on board the global research vessel
OceanXplorer that visited the Gulf of Aqaba in July 2022, where Dr. Arabeyyat
participated in two important scientific research by conducting special
research in the field of “Determination of Microplastics levels and evaluations
of marine litter in the deep sea-floor at the Jordanian Gulf of Aqaba” and
“Molecular Identification of Sponges, Corals and Symbiotic Dinoflagellate in
Corals in the Gulf of Aqaba” in partnership with the OceanX.The mission lasted
eight days.Dr. Arabeyyat and her team – consisting of researchers, Dr.Mais Sweiss from
Al-Balqa’ Applied University and Farah Manna a Research Assistant at the
University of Jordan worked together with OceanX in discovering the Microplastic
pollution in the Gulf of Aqaba, and discovering the molecular diversity of corals
and sponge speciesin the Gulf of Aqaba at an unreached depth of 800 metersfor
the first time.
