On behalf of the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Ghaleb Abbasi, the Assistant Head of the Branch, Dr. Moaz Abu Faraj, sponsored the opening ceremony of the scientific training workshop on the issue of plastic pollution. The ceremony was attended by European experts from the project team from Italy and Greece, and Jordanian experts from the School of Basic and Marine Sciences at the university.
After the opening ceremony, the participants were transferred to the Marine Science Station to start the practical training, which included, on the first day, samples of fish were dissected in the coral and benthic laboratories, after which the organs were analyzed and microplastic samples were extracted from them.
50 participants from institutions concerned with environmental affairs in the city of Aqaba and students of the School of Basic and Marine Sciences are participating in this training course, which lasts for three days.
