The instructor of the Environmental Culture course, Eman Al-Absi, organized a workshop about climate changeon Tuesday 4 Apr 2023 from 10:00 to 11:30 am. Two lecturers were invited to talk about climate change. Dr. Zeinab Arabeyyat gave a lecture including general information about climate change crises and their effects on coral reefs in the Gulf of Aqaba. She suggested many actions that could be taken by the students and the public to minimize the effects of climate change.
Mr.Agustin Ocaña, the chairman of the Global Youth Coalition (GYC) and an indigenous climate activist, gave a lecture about the climate crisis through innovative and sustainable solutions. The objective of his presentationwas to raise awareness about the urgent need for youth to take action to prevent a climate crisis. It is important for the students to understand how climate change is affecting Jordan and the Middle East, and what measures can be taken to mitigate its impact. Also, the concept of the GYC was introduced which is a network of young people from around the world who are working on climate change solutions.Furthermore, the importance of youth action on climate change was discussed with students. Also, the opportunities that exist in green jobs and triple-impact projects, and how students can lead such initiatives in their communities were presented and explained.
